All About Affiliate Marketing

When it comes to Affiliate Marketing, there are millions of dollars that exchange hands over the internet. What is Affiliate Marketing? Well, glad your interested. Affiliate Marketing is basically the promotion of goods and/or services of another company on their behalf and receiving commissions for the sale. Many companies look to affiliates to increase their sales and gain more quality traffic on the web.

There are many types of affiliate programs out there. The easiest type of affiliate program usually involves two parties; you as the affiliate, and a specific business that you will be promoting. Ads, banners and text links are placed on your site to promote the businesses site and are coded with your specific affiliate ID to give you credit for the sale. When your website's visitor clicks one of the links, your affiliate ID is recorded by the business you are promoting. The commisionable amount is usually determined up front and tends to be a fixed percentage of the sale amount or a fixed dollar amount for pay per click ads. Many people who are looking to start an online business and don't know what to sell or what service to offer begin by putting their efforts towards promoting the products of others and sharing a small amount of the revenue. This is great in that there are no upfront costs to join affiliate programs, you can virtually promote anything you want, and you don't have to worry about customer service, shipping, or any product storage issues.

How to Choose the Right Affiliate Programs for Your Site

There are thousands of affiliate programs out there, and it gets difficult to determine which programs are right for your site. Here is a small list to help guide you in your affiliate program search:

  • Choose programs that fall in line with your sites genre and content. If I were to put up auto parts ads, most if not all of my visitors would not be interested. Pick programs that complement your site well and interest your viewers.
  • Look for stable and quality companies. Make sure that the products and services you are promoting are actually worth promoting. Your time, money and sites reputation are all at stake.
  • Choose programs that offer high commissions. Also be sure to check how long you are to be credited with the sale of the customers you send over. Many afflliate programs offer commission credit for repeat customers for months and sometimes offer lifetime commissions.
  • Reputable companies should have affiliate programs that have professional contracts and good references. They should also have a strict payment structure and pay on time as promised.
