Tips on Shopping Locally

Here are a few money saving suggestions when shopping locally.

- Shop at your local discount stores. Believe it or not, they have the same types of items, if not more than your more expensive alternatives. I have always found Walmart to be a favorite. If you do not have a local Walmart, see my link above to shop with Walmart online. You can even use coupons at most discount stores, saving you even more!

-Use COUPONS! I know they have been around for a while and everyone knows about them, but they are very overlooked and underused. Trust me, coupons can make a difference!

- Thrift stores almost always have what you need. Used items can be a blessing in disguise! Take a look at your local thrift store and see what bargains are waiting for you. Many thrift stores also give the option of trade ins. Bring your old stuff that you no longer want or need and make a trade for items you do need. Make sure to clean all items thoroughly before use.

- Ever see "Garage Sale" or "Rummage Sale" signs in your neighborhood? Follow those signs! This is yet another great way to stock up on items for less. From furniture to clothing, you can find many unique and antique items right out of someone's yard.

The Coupon Mom System

{ Posted by mommygaga on November 17, 2008 }

There have been many articles around about the Coupon Mom System and it is definitely worth a try. This system has been proven to save you time and money. It was founded by a mother who worked full time and wanted to stay home with her children. She was fed up with inflating prices and needed a way to feed her family affordably. She started studying coupons and began to save a bunch of money. Her passion lead to the eventual invitiation for others to learn her system. Here it is in a nutshell:

Here's how the Coupon Mom system works:

First, gather your supplies:

  • Weekly Coupon Storage System (3-ring notebook, box with hanging file folder, expanding file folder)
  • Page protectors
  • 3-4 sheets of baseball card holders
  • Labels

After you gather your supplies, you will want to label everything (however you see fit). You can make up a filing system that works best for you. Get the Sunday Paper, every Sunday. When you get your Sunday paper you will follow the steps below:

1) Remove relevant store ads and coupon inserts and date the inserts with a marker on the front. You will put the date and the code for the insert distributor (on the coupon mom site). Don't sort through them in hopes to throw the irrelevant ones away. You may need them for a future purchase.

2) Slip all the store ads into a single page protector at the back of your notebook. You will want to keep the Sunday ads separate from the Wednesday ads (if your area has both) for ease of reference.

3) It may be helpful to you if you glance through the coupons and the sales fliers each week but you DO NOT need to clip the coupons (YET)!

4) The Coupon Mom Virtual Organizer should be able to take you the rest of the way (sign up FREE at couponmom.com to get access to this). This is the really great part of Coupon Mom's system! She keeps a database of all the coupons distributed in each insert each week and has them listed by state! Each Saturday afternoon, Coupon Mom's Coupon Database is updated with all the new coupons that will be out in Sunday's paper. Now you have all of the date marked coupons in your hands and they are virtually organized for you. You are able to easliy find and use the ones you need on your next shopping trip.
